Eye on Nature - Wearable Arts

On Saturday 1st April a group of amazingly talented students took part in the “Eye of Nature” Wearable Arts competition held at Auckland Botanical Gardens.

In groups or by themselves, the girls had to design and make a wearable costume made of recyclable materials. This included, old fabric, coke cans, old CD’s, beads, bottle tops and anything that had been used already!!

The theme the girls had to follow was “Edible”- “From Ground to the Table”. Edibles is about understanding the biodiversity of life in your backyard and all it encompasses including the plant and animal life within them. Where does our food come from? The importance of the insect life in the garden, composting, worm farming and organic pesticides.

All the costumes were outstanding and all the girls spent a lot of time at home and during their lunchtimes, working in groups, perfecting and creating their masterpieces.

Congratulations to the following students for their design and creations: Aimee Fahey and Zoe Arthur for Christmas in the Garden”, Amy Cooper and Holly Stephney for “Flower girl”, Ellie Waugh and Natasha Stewart- for “Strawberry Patch”, Lana Clark- Powell and Ivy Oliveria for” Miss Chelsea Sugar” Ava and Zoe Purvis for “The Milky Way”, Alana Mc Evoy and Kaley Rawlinson for “Wheat in the Wind” and Tyler Chapman for “Leaves” and Chloe Caddy, Emily Kummerow and Sahib for “Dressed to Eat”.
