Stockade Hill Trip

Last Wednesday Mansfield Whānau went to Stockade Hill.

At Stockade Hill they learned about how the hill once had a campsite that sat on the top of the hill surrounded by a metal wall and a trench.  Now you can find a war monument at the top of the hill surrounded by the trench. Around the hill are information boards about the defenders of New Zealand like Lt R.S Judson, who was awarded three metals: the VC, MM, and the DCM (Distinguished Conduct medal).

The trip was a great educational experience that allowed everyone to learn how Stockade Hill was important during the New Zealand Land Wars from 1845 to 1872.
