Fourteen Year 7 girls took on the mighty challenge of the SEZ Girls Football tournament at St Kentigern’s on Tuesday.
With all but two of our players making their debut on a Football pitch, we headed in with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn all about the beautiful game by getting stuck in and playing hard! With seven games to play, the team quickly learned that determination and a positive attitude would carry them through. We had some tough first games, but the team pulled together, found their groove and started to work as a team. Our defensive skills were well tested and some fantastic saves were made by Megan, who took on her new role as keeper with vigour. With some excellent tackles from Jess, solid support and runs from Lily and Lilly, as well as an increasingly strong defence from Abbey and her backs, we fought harder each game. Finally, their persistence paid off resulting in two goals scored against Pakuranga Heights, lifting the team's spirits at the end of the day. I’m so proud of the team and their efforts, especially as so many have never played before. Well done girls - you are awesome!
