The EOTC trips to Rocket Ropes, Butterfly Creek and the Marae last week have been a highlight of the year so far.
Students and staff faced their fears at Rocket Ropes and were rewarded with a sense of achievement and accomplishment. It was fantastic to see the perseverance and teamwork students displayed throughout the day. All students should be proud of themselves for supporting one another and showing determination. Students were also delighted with wildlife interactions at Butterfly Creek.
Whanau Ngata students have written metaphors about their experience. Here are a few they would like to share:
Rocket ropes is a nerve wracking, stomach churning, thrill seeking, head turning adventure.
Rocket ropes is a crazy spine chilling adventure drawing the breath out of you as you take the first step.
The butterfly room is Planet Mars with hot swirling wings moving around the room.
Butterfly Creek is a 100 degree Celsius room filled with flying art.
Students also visited the local Marae, Te Whare Ora (Matariki/Garden of Memories) in Uxbridge Rd where they learnt a lot about Maori culture and heritage and were treated to a delicious morning or afternoon tea. They spent time exploring the wildlife as well as the museum. It was a real privilege to be able to enter the wharenui and see its intricately designed and painted panels.
The kai at the marae was a room of heaven, setting taste buds tingling with flavours beaming through willing nostrils.
A huge thank you to all the parents/caregivers who supported us throughout the week at both venues and made it such a fun and successful time.
