Howick Intermediate was delighted to send 17 of our school's top science fair investigations to the Manukau NIWA Science Fair competition last week.

The following students' boards were selected:

Each student was required to display their boards alongside others in their categories and to discuss their investigations with the judging panel. The panel consisted of scientists who are well respected in their fields and come from a range of scientific fields and organisations.

From these entries we are delighted to announce the following results:

Rohnan Nankivell - First place in the Scientific Photography category and Highly Commended for his Spintastic investigation on the best lubricant for a Fidget Spinner to spin the fastest

Science Fair 1

Jake Welsh - Highly Commended for his Wave Busters investigation

Science Fair 1

Zoe Purvis - Highly Commended for her Compression Obsession investigation

Science Fair 1

The official prize giving will be on Tuesday 5 September at Mission Heights Junior College at 7:00pm.

Ava Purvis' investigation on the differences in height measures of a person between morning and evening, has prompted a further investigation by a researcher from the Liggins Institute. Our school will have the opportunity to be involved in this study. Ava will be leading this and co-authoring the research.

Well done to everyone who completed their Science Fair investigations, it was great to see so many students choosing to take part. A huge thank you to Mrs Bo Hensley who has worked with students and teachers to achieve these outstanding results.
